Halvard Press publishes eight books a year about forests, rivers and the people who work in them. Every cover had been designed from scratch, so the list looked like it came from eight different publishers.
We gave the series one photographic rule. Every cover shows a single tree, shot at dusk from below or from a distance, with nothing else in the frame. Title and author sit in the same place on every book, and the spine carries a running number so the books read in order on a shelf.
The spring list was the first to use the system. Bookshops now display the series together, and older titles sell alongside new ones for the first time.
