Animal Studies brought together 140 portraits of animals made in photographic studios, from nineteenth century glass plates to recent advertising work. Kunsthalle Sund asked us for the exhibition identity and for signage through a building that visitors often found confusing.
The posters show one animal each, cropped close against a plain background, with the title on a single line. Inside, we walked the building for two days and placed signs only where people had to make a choice. The old system had thirty one signs. The new one has eleven.
Attendance was the highest in the gallery's history, and the front desk stopped handing out paper maps in the second week of the show.
